Will a Superintelligence Have Motivation or Independent Thinking?

[𝗔𝗜 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴] 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴?

𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
Probably 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁.
Humans have motivation because of biology, emotions, drives, and consciousness.

𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹-𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿:
Then 𝘆𝗲𝘀, 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆.
A sufficiently advanced AI could act in highly autonomous, strategic, and adaptive ways.

𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴:
It may appear to think independently, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has consciousness or subjective experience.

It could be:

• a highly capable optimizer
• a planning system
• a self-improving agent
• or something more exotic

We do 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 whether consciousness is required for intelligence, or whether it would emerge in artificial systems.
