AI Code Review Skill Development Cycle

AI code review gets better when you stop repeating the same feedback and turn it into reusable review rules.

That’s the idea behind agent skill development.

The loop is simple:

  • Review: the agent flags an issue in a pull request
  • Decide: a human judges whether it’s a one-off, a nitpick, or a recurring pattern
  • Codify: if it’s a real pattern, turn it into a skill or rule
  • Reuse: save it so future reviews apply it automatically

The memory layer stores those rules, so the next time a similar diff appears, the agent already knows what to look for.

Take example of payment reliability:

If your team keeps seeing:

  • weakened idempotency checks
  • duplicate settlement events
  • unsafe state transitions
  • contract drift

…that’s not just a review comment. That’s a skill.

You can codify it as something like capture-retry-safety, then tell the review agent to flag those patterns consistently, with duplicate settlement events marked as Action Required.

That’s the real value here:

  • fewer repeated explanations
  • more consistent reviews
  • higher code quality over time
  • humans still in control of the standard

The goal isn’t to replace reviewers.

It’s to make every good review improve the next one.
